One-to-one or groups of three

The hardest subject on the VCE list, and the one schools struggle to staff

Specialist Mathematics asks students to work with complex numbers, vectors, mechanics, differential equations and formal proof — often in classes of six or eight, sometimes taught by a teacher covering it alongside three other subjects. Students who take it are rarely struggling with maths. They're capable students meeting genuinely difficult material for the first time, usually without enough contact time to work through it properly.

Complex numbers, vectors, mechanics, differential equations and formal proof
SAC preparation and past exam papers under timed conditions
CAS technique and a bound reference that actually works under pressure

What sessions cover

Complex numbers and the complex plane, vectors and vector calculus, kinematics and mechanics, differential equations, and proof by induction and contradiction. Alongside the content: SAC preparation, past exam papers worked under timed conditions, CAS calculator technique, and building a bound reference that's genuinely usable in an exam rather than just thick. I'm a PhD researcher at Swinburne who teaches calculus and statistics to engineering undergraduates — the material Specialist leads into. When a student asks why a method works, they get the real reason. One-to-one or in groups capped at three students, in Officer and Pakenham or online across Victoria. First assessment session is free.
